CROATIA AS DESTINATION No. 1

Lonely Planet, the world famous publisher of tourist guides, has declared Croatia to be the world's most popular destination in 2005. This year, Lonely Planet delayed publication of their selection as a mark of respect for their friends in those countries devastated by the Tsunami. Following its position in fourth place, which it achieved last year, this year Croatia moved to the very top of the survey, the reason being its unique combination of culture, history, cuisine, accessibility and affordability - which was how Lonely Planet defined its statement of 31 January. One of those surveyed described Croatia's nomination as follows: "The country attracts a wide range of travellers with its wealth of varied attractions, while at the same time it is not overcrowded by tourists. It has an excellent infrastructure which is able to meet the demands of adventurers and comfortseekers alike.
